Regaining perspective

I haven’t posted in awhile, but that’s not because I haven’t been writing. I have. You wouldn’t have wanted to read it. What I wrote about was full-on anxiety about our deck building project. Like I always do, I painfully wrote out each anxiety, thought, plan or concern. It’s cathartic for me, but painful toContinue reading “Regaining perspective”

Morning routines.

So, we have some very familiar morning routines around here. Get up, get coffee, make the cats a snack. There’s also scooping boxes and letting our two oldest cats go on “walkabout” outside. Except… well, the deck is gone. G.O.N.E., finally-tore-it-down, GONE. Even the former posts which were cemented into the ground have been removed.Continue reading “Morning routines.”

The slow burn of joy…

I keep swearing off my mini-epiphanies and then having another one. It’s become a bit of a cycle for me and if I’m at all self-honest, I recognize and don’t really attempt to stop the pattern. But I’ll also defend myself because ultimately isn’t understanding life what we’re all trying to do in the randomContinue reading “The slow burn of joy…”

So, what is a best life????

This morning, it was me, myself and… Twister? Yep. My big guy went on walkabout this morning. He loves his morning walks. He checked out the new concrete piers for the deck, inspected the mulching job in my perennial gardens, took a gander in the woodshed at the firewood we stacked over the weekend andContinue reading “So, what is a best life????”

Strategically planning…

Last night, we held the first ever Family Strategic Planning Session. It may have been somewhat prompted by my doing strategic planning for a client, but our purpose was clear: this little family needed to build a life we didn’t have to escape from. And if we were going to do that? Well, we neededContinue reading “Strategically planning…”

The sum or the parts…

This past week has been, well, a week. Arriving home from Florida on Saturday, we landed in snow flurries. That should have been my sign. But hopeful after a week of wall-to-wall sunshine, I dismissed the omen. By Monday afternoon, I got the message: the week was going to be bumpy. But I made itContinue reading “The sum or the parts…”

Quiet(ish) Sunday mornings…

I know cats are supposed to be stealth and all, but let’s face it: it’s not true. Every morning, we have the same routine. We get up and general mayhem, at least for the first solid hour ensues. Our latest rescue is a talkative little thing and likes to walk around the house vocalizing. ThatContinue reading “Quiet(ish) Sunday mornings…”

The day I re-evaluated.

It has been a fabulous four-day weekend for me. The weather until today has been absolutely fabulous for a solid week. The garden is largely in – just direct seeding left – and I’ve managed to keep enough of a lid on home, garden and yard that we are going into tomorrow – the firstContinue reading “The day I re-evaluated.”

Figuring it all out…

So, yesterday I got some bad news for my microbusiness. It appears that the major thing I was hanging my hat on – a federal grant writing opportunity – may not come in anytime soon. Yikes! That was the bulk of my early consulting work. But on the flipside… . Well, I didn’t make theContinue reading “Figuring it all out…”

A simpler peace

It’s a typical Tuesday here. There is just enough snow on the ground to remind you that it’s winter (although it should melt by the end of the day) and so far there have been at least two kitty dust-ups. Both were playful but one resulted in a missing collar and the other sent aContinue reading “A simpler peace”
